Maureen and Robert had dated for several years when they finally decided to tie the knot.

And there began a journey so beautiful and yet so challenging. They had a pretty short time to plan the wedding; 3 months to be precise, which would be a tight squeeze for any couple. In spite of the naysayers, this couple stuck to their guns and carried on with planning for their wedding.

When we asked Robert what made him decide that Maureen was the woman for him, without missing a beat, he said ‘it was her genuine friendship, loyalty, maturity, her love for me and her love for God.’ And for Maureen, she had found the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, a man who was determined, independent and who loved her with everything he had. Robert is a person of disability but that did not matter one bit to Maureen. He made her see persons of disability in a different light; as very strong and capable people.

Wedding planning takes a toll on your pocket too. There are the large payments that go towards food, venue, and wedding gown and so on to the smaller payments for invites and makeup, which tend to add up. Wedding planning certainly takes a hit at your finances.
But Maureen and Robert did not let that deter them from their goal, they looked for ways to cut costs such as having the wedding reception, photography and venue at the same place. They also sent out very few invites and instead sent most if the invites via e-card, email or Facebook. And when it came to the wedding transport, rather than hire vehicles, they asked their friends for assistance. Their hearts were set on getting married and not even the cost of a wedding would discourage them.

And finally the day they had been dreaming about and longing for arrived. Maureen looked absolutely stunning in a white mermaid dress with feminine ruffles on the skirt. She was gorgeous! Robert looked suave in a sky blue African outfit and there was not a happier man on earth!

As they exchanged their vows, their genuine love for each other was evident and after a challenging wedding planning process they were beside themselves with joy. And later on, at the reception, together with their bridal party they danced their hearts out. Even the usually gloomy August weather had no choice but to lighten up!

In spite of the many obstacles they encountered, this couple had the persisted against all odds to have the wedding of their dreams. Maureen and Robert’s story is a real testament that dreams do come true. And how about you? Are you chasing your dreams?
