Before you throw in the towel, here is the story of one couple, Eric and Olive, who dared to put in the time, effort and resources required to have the wedding of their dreams. Olive and Eric had always dreamt of having an all-white wedding. Everything from their outfits to the décor in brilliant white. And that is not all. Their desire was that their guests too would dress in white outfits. This as you can imagine is a very bold idea and requires creativity and detailed execution to pull off.

There was also no guarantee that the guests would stick to the all-white attire. The older guests might find it a bother and what about the rule that only the bride should wear white at the wedding! But nothing was going to stand in their way. Some rules are just meant to be broken.

When it comes to décor, bright colours can be used to add interest to an otherwise drab setup. But with just one colour, the décor will need to ride on creativity and execution. Both Eric and Olive are artists and so they were totally up to the challenge. They draped lights across the venue to add a warm and magical glow to the wedding. And to add a touch of quirkiness to the ceremony, they spread kikois on the grass for their guests to sit on. With the all-white draping and string lights running across the venue the result was nothing short of magical.

A regular wedding in Kenya will have the number of guests ranging anywhere from 600 to 800. Eric and Olive were keen on having a small intimate wedding with 100 guests rather than a large wedding. They wanted to have the feeling of close friends and family surrounding them. In a culture where most weddings are large they were certainly going against the grain. To quote the couple ‘…be yourselves; do not do something you don’t understand just because it’s done in other weddings.’ I couldn’t have said it better.

Olive and Eric’s idea to have an intimate, all-white wedding was absolutely brilliant (no pun intended). It just goes to show what you can achieve if you are ready to dream a little and step out of the box to follow your dream.
